Lenovo launched the successor to its popular A6000 smartphone, the Vibe K5, on Monday, responding to the increasing demand for ultra-affordable smartphones in India. The Vibe K5 is a suitable device for those who are upgrading from feature to smartphones and also serves the purpose for budget shoppers. The handset will be sold in a flash sale model in India starting June 22 and registrations for the sale are open on Amazon India.
Lenovo Vibe K5 will be available only for registered buyers next Wednesday at 2 p.m. By looking at the handset's ultra-cheap price tag and the specs, it is likely that there will be buyers lined up even before the sale and the stock wouldn't last for long, as is the case with any flash sale of a worthy product.
At the price, Lenovo Vibe K5 competes against some of the best sellers in the market such as Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime, Meizu m2, Coolpad Note 3 Lite and Swipe Elite Plus. The handset also matches most of these smartphones in terms of specifications to give customers the worth of spending Rs. 6,999. While the sub-Rs. 10,000 price category has been pretty successful in India, it remains to be seen how well the Vibe K5 will perform.
In terms of specifications, Lenovo Vibe K5 features a 5-inch HD display with 294ppi, a 13-megapixel primary camera with LED flash and a 5MP front snapper. It is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 415 octa-core processor, Adreno 405 GPU for graphics and 2GB RAM.
The handset comes with 16GB onboard storage and an option to expand up to 32GB using the microSD card slot. The handset also supports dual SIM and high-speed 4G LTE bandwidths. It is one of the very few devices in the market that offer a metal frame, which gives the Vibe K5 a premium feel. It comes in gold, silver and grey colour options.
Lenovo Vibe K5 sports twin speakers Dolby Atmos for enhanced audio experience and also features FM connectivity in addition to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The smartphone is powered by a 2,750mAh battery, which the company claims lasts up to 32 hours on 2G talk time, 12 hours on music playback or 6.2 hours on video playback. For the VR fans, the Vibe K5 supports TheaterMax technology for immersive virtual reality experience via AntVR headset, which is sold separately.
