With the rise in competition in the smartphone industry, manufacturers are trying to attract consumers with great specs offered at best prices. The sub-Rs 5,000 category is extremely popular in India. Lenovo has attained an undisputed dominance in the budget smartphone space but not without rivals.
Lenovo unveiled three new smartphones this week, cheapest of which is the A1000. The ultra-affordable handset is priced at Rs 4,999, making it a rival to its own sibling, A2010 and YU's Rs 4,999-worth Yunique smartphone.
We are going to compare individual specifications of each smartphone to see which one offers better value-for-money.
Display
Lenovo A2010 and A1000 might look identical at first sight, after all, they come from the same manufacturer. The A1000 is the company's newly released model in the A series, featuring a four-inch WVGA TFT screen with 480 x 800 pixel resolution.
But if you wish to have a bigger screen, A2010 offers a 4.5-inch qHD display with 480 x 854 pixel resolution.
YU's well-received Yunique smartphone is the biggest of all and offers a display of 4.7 inches. In addition, the handset's resolution is bumped up to 1,280 x 720 pixels, making it the cheapest smartphone with HD screen.
In this category, we find YU Yunique to outbid Lenovo's offerings with a suitable screen size and greater resolution.
Camera
Lenovo A1000 sports a basic five-megapixel primary camera with flash and a front-facing VGA shooter. Comparatively, Lenovo A2010 packs an improved front-facing camera, which has a two-megapixel sensor, and the rear-facing camera is intact.
But such is not the case in terms of YU Yunique, which turns better again with its 8MP primary shooter. The front camera is same as Lenovo A2010 at two megapixels.
When we reviewed YU Yunique, we found the handset's camera to be decent but not great. We are unsure of Lenovo smartphones as we haven't had the chance to review them.
Under the hood
The choice of specs used inside a smartphone play a vital role in the smooth functioning of the device. Lenovo A1000 is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Spreadtrum SC7731 while the A2010 smartphone uses 1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735M processor. Both smartphones have 1GB RAM and 8GB expandable storage supporting up to 32GB of extra space.
When we reviewed YU Yunique, we found the handset's 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor coupled by 1GB RAM delivering great results. With a score of 20,444 on AnTuTu Benchmark and 424 single core and 1,325 multi core score on GeekBench, the handset easily surpasses the likes of many other rivals in its price range. Yunique offers 8GB of internal space, expandable up to 32GB using microSD cards.
While we can vouch for Yunique's performance, A2010 and A1000 are likely to perform exceptionally great considering the combination of processor and RAM they pack.
Battery
Lenovo A1000 packs a 2,050 mAh battery while YU Yunique and A2010 tie with a 2,000 mAh unit. Considering the screen resolutions of all three phones, Lenovo A2010 will last longer than Yunique and A2010.
Our verdict
Lenovo A1000 can be the right choice for those who wish to get longer battery and comfortable grip while the A2010 will give you a better luck with selfies. YU Yunique is a package of good camera, HD screen and 4G support but it might let you down in the battery department. Depending on your usage, you can select any one of these three phones as they all are priced under Rs 5,000.
