FX's X-Men spin-off TV show Legion has been renewed for season 3 and attendees at the San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend were the first to know about it. The Noah Hawley show takes viewers through the journey of David Haller, mutant and son of Professor Charles Xavier aka Professor X.
While the appearance of Professor X has been teased in the two seasons gone by, Legion hasn't put a face to the character. And judging by the new statement from the channel, it will be long before X-Men fans will see David meet his father.
Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb told the audience at the convention this weekend that there are slim chances of it happening in the third season. According to IGN, Loeb said:
There's a whole political ladder that we climb up and down - it's more of a jungle gym. There's Fox movies and then there's FX and Fox in general then there's Marvel and there's Marvel Studios... the fact that this show is as good as it is a testament to the talent of these people.
This wasn't the only update shared with regard to the show. The cast, including Dan Stevens and Rachel Keller, attended the Legion panel on Hall H on Sunday and revealed that David, portrayed by Stevens, will not be the lead in the new season. The third season would revolve around Syd.
Syd Barrett actress Rachel Keller, on an Agents of Geek podcast, said:
It was hard to balance future and present Syd because I was so invested was happening with present Syd. But I am so excited to see where we go from here with Syd the hero of season three.
In Legion season 2, David suffered a mental break down. With the help of his telepathic powers, he manipulated Syd's mind and raped her. When David's friends tried to confront him about it, he fled with Lenny.
The third season could set up her journey to confronting her abuser. How and where is still unknown. Fans will have to wait for the 2019 release of Legion season 3 to find out.
