A fire burned trees and cabanas around an outdoor pool at the Cosmopolitan Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip on 25 July, injuring at least two people and forcing guests to evacuate, a fire official said.
The two injured people suffered smoke inhalation and at least one was taken to hospital said Clark County fire chief Greg Cassell.
What was burning was all the exterior – pool areas, cabanas, chairs, furniture, the landscaping – things around the pool that would be combustible, he said.
We did have smoke on multiple floors throughout the hotel. The smoke got into those floors because occupants of those rooms had left their windows cracked a little bit.
The fire, which broke out at around 12pm local time, burned trees and cabanas surrounding an outdoor pool at the 14th floor of the hotel before it was extinguished, Cassell said. Images showed a huge mass of black smoke from the fire.
Guests were evacuated from the hotel because of smoke and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
