Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) has unveiled the armoured version of the Range Rover luxury SUV christened as Range Rover Sentinel, which is built at its Oxford Road facility in United Kingdom.

The Sentinel is based on the standard wheelbase Range Rover Autobiography. The vehicle can withstand 7.62mm high-velocity, armour piercing incendiary bullets and delivers lateral protection against up to 15kg TNT blasts. It also provides defense against DM51 grenade explosions from both beneath and above the roof.

Inside the vehicle is a six-piece armoured passenger cell, made of high-strength steel, providing protection from attack. The standard glass has been replaced by multi-laminated armour glass providing bullet protection. The Range Rover Sentinel received VR8 level certification.

SVO has also worked on the Dynamic Stability Control and Ride Stability Control systems and they mention that the Sentinel has a maximum payload capacity of 650 kg. The suspension has been up-rated and the vehicle retains all the off-road capability of standard SUV, for which Land Rover is famous.

The Sentinel has an anti-tamper exhaust, a self-sealing fuel tank, auxiliary back-up battery and a split charging system. The 100mm opening in the driver's window for document delivery ensures the vehicle is secure. The vehicle runs on 20-inch split rim alloy wheels that allow it to be driven even if the tyres are deflated.

The Sentinel is powered by 335bp, 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. The SUV also boasts of 380mm front and 365mm rear ventilated disc brakes, both with high-density pads.
