According to weekly newspaper Eastern Eye, 61-year-old Lakshmi Mittal, a Non-Resident Indian and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of ArcelorMittal, is the most powerful Asian in Britain, for the year 2011. Mittal's fortune is estimated at £15.5 billion and he leads Eastern Eye's "Power List of 101", in the "Industry" category.
The list was released by British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, on Wednesday night.
Other Indians who made it to the list are industrialist Lord Swraj Paul (ranked 17 in the "Industry" list), Baroness Sayeeda Warsi and Lord Navnit Dholakia (ranked 2 and 12 in the "Politics" list), Labour MP Keith Vaz (ranked 3 in the "Politics" list), S. P. and G. P. Hinduja and Lord Karan Bilimoria (ranked 4 and 61 in the "Business" list), Dr. Kartar Lalvani (ranked 49 in the "Pharmacy" list) and sculptor Anish Kapoor (ranked 6 in the "Arts" list).
