Real Madrid fired a warning to their La Liga rivals Barcelona following a crushing 9-1 win against Granada, courtesy five goals from Cristiano Ronaldo.
After Gareth Bale broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, the Portuguese was on fire as he scored a hat-trick in a span of eight minutes before grabbing two more goals in the second half at the Bernabeu.
Karim Benzema also grabbed a brace, while Granada defender Mainz added another in the form of an own goal.
Granada, on the other hand, were only able to score a consolation goal through Robert Ibáñez.
After a pretty balanced opening quarter of the game, Real broke the deadlock in the 25th minute through Bale, who found the net with an easy finish after rounding up goalkeeper Oier.
After that Granda did not know what hit them as Ronaldo grabbed the quickest La Liga hat-trick of all time by scoring three goals in a span of eight minutes.
His first goal came exactly at the half hour mark when a poor clearance from Mainz resulted in James Rodriguez slipping a pass to the Portuguese, who made no mistake in firing into the far corner.
Moments later, the former Manchester United man, took advantage of Oier Olazábal's mistake and fired home to score his 32nd La Liga goal of the season.
Ronaldo soon completed his hat-trick in the 38th minute by firing a stinging drive from the edge of the box that Olazábal could not save despite managing to get both hands on ball.
Things did not improve for Granada in the second half as Benzema added Real Madrid's fifth goal of the afternoon in the 52nd minute. The Frenchman, after managing to control Rodriguez's corner kick on his chest, slotted the ball past a hapless Olazábal.
Two minutes later Ronaldo claimed his fourth goal of the game following some good work from Bale.
Real Madrid claimed their seventh goal of the afternoon in the 56th minute through Benzena, who after picking up a good cutback from Arebloa, fired a shot which went in following a slight deflection off Babin.
The visitors finally managed to pull a goal back through Ibáñez, who took advantage of Sergio Ramos' momentary lapse of concentration, latched on to an excellent through ball from El-Arabi, before angling a good finish past Iker Casillas at the far corner.
However, Granada's misery continued as Real Madrid further increased their lead through an own goal from Mainz, who accidently turned the ball into his own net while trying to intercept Luka Modric's pass to Ronaldo.
Finally with a minute to go, Ronaldo scored his fifth goal of the afternoon to make it 9-1 after connecting with a good cross from Modric.
