Kings XI Punjab will be without star Australian batsman Shaun Marsh for the remainder of IPL 2016. The 32-year-old's season has come to an end owing to a back injury.
Only a day earlier, the Punjab-based side earned an emphatic win over Gujarat Lions in Rajkot, with it also getting their second victory of the season. KXIP are still rockbottom in the IPL this season, and just when it looked like they were set for a fresh start to their campaign, they lost one of their key players.
Marsh may have scored just one run off three balls against Gujarat Lions on Sunday, but he has been the third highest runscorer for KXIP this season, below Murali Vijay and Manan Vohra.
According to ESPNCricinfo, the Aussie suffered the injury during KXIP's game against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 19. Marsh, who has scored 159 runs over six games this season, was also seen struggling while batting and fielding for his team against the Gujarat Lions.
He is the latest to join the list of star players being ruled out of the IPL through injuries. Just hours back, Rising Pune Supergiants batsman Steve Smith saw his IPL 2016 campaign come to an end with a wrist injury.
Apart from Marsh and Smith, foreigners Kevin Pieteresen, Faf du Plessis, Mitchell Marsh, Lendl Simmons, Mitchell Starc, Samuel Badree, John Hastings, Joel Paris and Lasith Malinga have all been ruled out of IPL 2016 because of various injuries.
