Renault India achieved a market share of 4.9 percent of the Indian automobile market in March this year, after witnessing increased sales of the small car Kwid and the revamped Duster SUV. Renault India sold 2,000 units of Duster, about 600 units of Lodgy MPV and more than 9,000 units of Kwid in March 2016.
Rafael Treguer, vice president, sales and marketing of Renault India, said, "We have got 4.9 percent market share in March and have sold 12,400 units in the month," according to the Business Standard. "In January to March quarter, we acquired 4.1 percent share of Indian passenger car market," he added.
This is a big boost for Renault India, which targets five percent market share by the end of 2016. The target was earlier fixed to achieve by the end of 2017. However, overwhelming sales of the Kwid led the company to advance the timeframe for the goal. Renault India had just two percent market share in 2015.
The Kwid has become the bread and butter model for the company within months of its launch in September 2015. The hatchback with SUV-ish stance had received over 1.10 lakh bookings by March-end. The Duster, on the other hand, got a facelift in the beginning of March. The new version, apart from the cosmetic changes, also marked the debut of the model with AMT transmission.
