It was reported earlier this year that Bajaj-KTM duo is working on small capacity adventure motorcycle to satiate growing trend of affordable dual-purpose motorcycles around the world.
Emerging reports from INTERMOT show in Germany indicates the plan is on full swing. A report in Overdrive says KTM officials have confirmed arrival of 390 Adventure in 2019. The company reportedly made prototypes of the 390 Adventure based on the current 390 Duke. However, the Duke frame with long travel suspension resulted in a very tall seat height and a ground clearance not significantly higher than the Dukes.
The 390 Adventure will be based on the all new 390 Duke which is due for the EICMA show in Milan in November. Having said that, the gap between the 390 Adventure and the 390 Duke in terms of chassis and alterations will be significant.
The engine in the new 390 Adventure will be the same that will power the 2017 KTM 390 Duke. The present generation 390 Duke Draws power from a 373cc, single cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that develops 43bhp and 35Nm of torque mated to a six-speed transmission. The new 390 Duke will get a re-tuned engine in order to extract more power and performance.
KTM is expected to position 390 Adventure in Travel Enduro family, which is light to moderate off-road capable but not a motocrosser or dirt bike. India launch of the 390 Adventure is expected soon after the global unveil. There is high possibility that the company will manufacture 390 Adventure in Bajaj Auto's Pune plant to keep price in check just like the Duke and RC range.
