Kottayam Assistant Collector Divya S Iyer is all set to make her acting debut in Malayalam as a Christian nun. In the upcoming movie, titled "Eliyammachide Christmas," versatile actress KPAC Lalitha plays the titular Eliyammachi and Divya will be seen as Sister Jeeva Maria. The relationship shared by the duo at an old-age home is being narrated in the film.
"After my parents, it is a few sisters [nuns] who have helped me become what I am today, as I was a student of a convent school. They found my talents and helped me develop them. After going through the script, I realised it as an offer I should not miss. Being a civil servant, I have many social commitments, and this movie narrates one of the most imporatant issues that we face in our society these days as many parents are being sent to old-age homes by their kids," Divya told Manorama News. The upcoming film, directed by Benny Ashamsha, will go on floors by next week.
Divya, who also holds an MBBS degree from the Christian Medical College (CMC), was earlier in the news after the election campaign songs "Viral thumbil Nammude Bhaavi" and "En Vaakku En Ethirkalam" sung by her hit cyberspace.
The multi-talented civil servant has also proved her talent in Kathakali, Odissi, classical music and solo acts, apart from authoring four books. Divya who stood 48th in the All-India Civil Services Examinations in 2013 in her second attempt, also has plans to continue her studies.
