Sudeep's star power has worked big time for his latest film "Kotigobba 2." The Kannada film has done a record collection in four days and the estimated business of the flick stands at Rs. 22 crore.
Trade reports say that "Kotigobba 2" has enjoyed a superb occupancy not only in main centres like Bengaluru and Mysuru, but also in centres like Udupi and Mangaluru where the market for Kannada films has been a concern for Sandalwood.
It has raked in close to Rs. 7 crore from the BTK centre (Bengaluru, Tumakuru and Kolar) and Rs. 15.5 crore from rest of Karnataka. The trade experts say that the long holiday weekend helped the film to perform well.
It has now become the fastest Rs. 20-crore grosser in Kannada, beating the record of Yash's "Masterpiece," which took six days to reach the mark.
"Kotigobba 2," which has Nithya Menen in the female lead, was released in over 220 screens in Karnataka on the occasion of Varamalakshmi festival on Aug. 12. The movie was also simultaneously released in Tamil as "Mudinja Ivana Pudi," which has reportedly not lived up to the expectations.
The Kannada movie is written and directed by leading South Indian filmmaker KS Ravikumar, who made his Sandalwood debut with this flick. He has churned out a complete family entertainer, which has been loved by all section of audience.
"Kotigobba 2" faced huge competition from other language movies like Akshay Kumar's "Rustom," Hrithik Roshan's "Mohenjo Daro" and Telugu movie "Babu Bangaram" in Karnataka.
