A 25-year-old youth was arrested after Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel seized pistols and bullets from him at a metro station here, police said on Tuesday.
The youth was taken into custody by the RPF after, acting on a tip-off, they scanned his bag and found three locally-made pistols and five bullets as he tried to enter the Geetanjali metro station on Monday night.
The youth claimed he was taking the arms and ammunitions, so long kept in his house at Falta in South 24 Parganas, to dispose of them. He said the firearms were kept in self-defence in view of a family feud.
However, the RPF did not find the reason convincing and handed him over to police.
The youth has been booked under the Arms Act.
