In a shocking incident that caused quite some chaos at the Kerala Bhawan in New Delhi, a knife-wielding man is said to have barged into the premises and tried to attack Kerala chief minister M Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday, August 4. He was spotted near Vijayan's room and the security officials managed to restrain and nab him before he could enter.
It is believed that the man is of unsound mind.
"The incident happened at around 9.45 am. The person with a knife in hand came near the chief minister's room in the Kerala House, the New Indian Express quoted sources with the CMO as saying. "It seems he is of unsound mind. We managed to rein in him before he reached the chief minister. He has been handed over to the police for further probe."
The attacker has now been identified as 46-year-old Vimal Raj, a native of Alappuzha. He reportedly was also carrying a few papers along and threatened to "finish" the chief minister and also planned to kill himself before Vijayan.
Speaking of the incident, DCP (New Delhi) Madhur Verma told the Times of India: "A PCR call vide DD No 9A regarding an unknown man trying to enter forcibly in Kerala house was received at PS Connaught Place. One person namely Mr Vimal Raj a resident of Kadavoor, Karippuzha, Kerala, was found at Kerala house and detained.
