Envious owners of Windows Phone smartphones who saw their friends on Android and iOS phones playing the popular candy match game can now enjoy it firsthand. King's popular mobile game, Candy Crush Saga, has finally arrived on the Windows Phone platform. The game has come to Windows after a long delay. It was originally launched on Android and iOS platforms two years ago.
Candy Crush Saga is one of the most played games right now and opening up a new platform means fresh audience and an addition to the already massive user base . The title is available as a free download on WP devices running version 8.1, but there are several in-app purchases that offer small advantages inside the game. But you can largely survive without these in-app purchases.
Candy Crush Saga is basically a candy matching game where players are required to empty all the candies by swapping positions of two adjacent candies in order to match at least three colors in the same line. The Windows Phone version of the game is no different than its Android and iOS counterparts.
There are several levels and as you proceed to the higher ones, it gets tougher. In the WP version, Candy Crush Saga has a total of 50 main levels along with the critically acclaimed Dreamworld expansion, which was released on web, Android and iOS last year.
"King continues to add new levels to the game every few weeks so we hope to keep Windows Phone players thoroughly entertained on a daily basis," Sebastian Knutsson, Chief Creative Officer at King, said in a statement.
King released the title on Facebook before moving out as a standalone game app for mobiles in 2012. Candy Crush Saga was well-received among mobile users and became a viral hit in a short span of time.
Candy Crush Saga's arrival on Windows Phone platform shows Microsoft's efforts to get as many third party developers and game studios on board with its struggling OS. But the mobile OS is clearly growing in large numbers and challenging the dominating Android and iOS world.
Candy Crush Saga is available for download from Windows Phone Store.
