In what could be perceived by many admirers as a bad news, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's beautiful sister, Kim Yeo-jong has reportedly married to a senior official within the regime.
A Korean, residing in China after his North Korea visit on 10 September said that he heard the news from a high-ranking official in a trading company that the 27-year-old is now married, South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo reported, citing a report from Radio Free Asia.
The source further said that Kim Yeo-jong's husband is understood to be working for the Workers Party's "Room 39", which deals with Kim Jong-un's slush funds.
The source was, however, unable to obtain further details on the purported husband of the young woman, who was earlier rumoured to have taken temporary control of the country while her brother was undergoing his leg operation – an incident that led to his long absence from public appearance and fuelled a world-wide speculation that the reclusive regime might have been toppled.
The South Korean tabloid further confirmed the news of the marriage via Ahn Chan-il, an official of the World Institute for North Korean Studies in Seoul, who also heard that Kim's sister had tied the knot.
He said that the North Korea's ruling elite has the custom of holding important marriage functions on national holidays. So, the young woman might have got married on 9 September (North Korea's founding day) or 10 October, (Worker Party's anniversary), he said.
This comes following other rumours that suggested Kim Yeo-jong had married a member of her brother's security detail. The South Korean paper also, however, cited National Intelligence Service as saying that it had received unverified intelligence about her marriage during a National Assembly audit on Tuesday.
