Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma aka RGV has revealed that the release of the Telugu version of "Killing Veerappan" has once again been postponed due to the delay in the censor procedures.
"Killing Veerappan" was one of the most-awaited Telugu movies of 2015, and was initially slated to hit the screens in October 2015. But its release was deferred a few times due to financial problems and legal issues. The makers cleared all the problems and planned to release it in theatres on 1 January, 2016. But its Telugu version landed in a problem with the censor board.
Just a day before its release, Ram Gopal Varma announced on Twitter the Kannada version of "Killing Veerappan" would hit the screens as per schedule, but the release of its Telugu version had been delayed again.
On 31 December, 2015, Ram Gopal Varma tweeted: "Due to a censor procedural delay telugu version of Killing Veerappan is not releasing tmrw ...only the Kannada version is releasing tmrw. Kannada version "Killing Veerappan" is releasing tmrw January 1st as per schedule...Release date of telugu version will be announced soon (sic)"
The next day, the filmmaker announced that the Telugu version of Killing Veerappan would the screened on 7 January after a week's delay. On 1 January, Ram Gopal Varma tweeted: "Killing Veerappan" is going to release in telugu on January 7th"
The Kannada version of "Killing Veerappan" hit the screens on 1 January and garnered positive response from both the audience and critics. This has made the Telugu audiences wait eagerly for the release of its Tollywood version. As of now, there is no clarity from the makers on its censorship, which has made some in T-Town keep their finger crossed about its release.
Ram Gopal Varma is thrilled by the performance of "Killing Veerappan" at the Sandalwood box office. He tweeted: "Veerappan might have done lot of bad things to a lot of people but he has done a lot of good to me #KillingVeerappan. Veerappan did more for me than what he did to his own wife Mutthulakshmi#KillingVeerappan (sic)"
