Killed backpacker Thomas Jackson nominated for bravery award
Thomas Jackson was killed trying to protect fellow backpacker Mia Ayliffe-Chung when she was attacked by a 29-year-old French man shouting Allahu Akbar in at a hostel in Queensland, Australia on 24 August. Mia also died in the attack but Jacksons bravery has been recongnised by both the family of Mia and Queensland officials. Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, nominated Jackson for a bravery award saying that Mr Jacksons reported actions of putting his own life before the life of hers represents an extraordinary act of courage.
