Ranveer Singh's "Kill Dil" had a below average start and it also failed to beat the opening day collection record of his previous films "Gunday" and "Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela".
"Kill Dil" also featuring Govinda, Parineeti Chopra and Ali Zafar raked in only ₹6.53 crore from first Friday run at the domestic box office, according to Bollywood Hungama.
Despite the great promotions, the film grossed in only ₹6 crore on opening day. Besides, it is Govinda's comeback film and considering that element the film underperformed in India.
The film features Ranveer in the lead role whose last two films did exceptionally well at the box office. "Kill Dil" too relied more on Ranveer's shoulders, but eventually the film failed to impress audience and critics.
The romantic action thriller's opening day box office income is less than half, when to compared to Ranveer's last two releases.
"Gunday", which is one the highest grosser films of 2014, fetched ₹16.12 crore on day one, the highest ever for Ranveer.
"Ram-leela", which is a ₹100 crore grosser, also minted ₹16 crore on its first day. "Ram-leela" was released on 14 November last year and "Kill Dil" hit screens on same day this year.
"It is a big co-incidence that two of his films will be releasing on the same day. Ranveer happened to realise this and immediately shared it with his team. It is a very rare occurrence for any actor," DNA quoted the spokesperson of the film as saying.
The film was expected to meet the same fate as "Ram-leela" did, but unfortunately "Kill Dil" failed to open with that same response in India.
The film is directed by Shaad Ali and produced under Yash Raj Films banner. The film was released in more than 2,000 screens in India on Friday.
