A Ukrainian national guardsman was killed outside parliament in Kiev during violent protests as lawmakers inside passed a bill giving more autonomy to rebel-held territories in eastern Ukraine. Nearly 90 others were injured by a grenade thrown out of the ranks of protesters on 31 August. Four of them suffered serious wounds to the eyes, stomach, neck and legs.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty has released a video showing a possible suspect throwing an explosive device into the group of guardsmen. The footage shows the masked man clearly from two different angles. National guardsmen and police officers had to care for the wounded amid clouds of tear gas. Puddles of blood and discarded equipment were strewn on the ground.
