Surender Reddy, the director of the original Telugu film "Kick," seems to be unhappy with the Salman Khan's Hindi remake.
Reddy directed the Ravi Teja starrer "Kick" in 2009 and the film went on to become a big hit. The action thriller comedy film was then remade in Tamil as "Thillalangadi." However, the Tamil version failed to set the cash register ringing.
Salman's "Kick" is the official Hindi remake of the Telugu film with the same name. The Hindi version, which hit the screens on 25 July, received good reviews from critics. But it seems, Reddy is disappointed with the remake. He posted a message on Facebook stating that "Kick" did not do justice to the original film or to Salman Khan. He further said that the film would have been the biggest ever for Salman if the makers had understood the spirit of "Kick."
Meanwhile, the Salman starrer is doing an extraordinary business in India. The film has minted over ₹80 crore in its opening weekend and is fast approaching the ₹100 crore mark. "#Kick has a SPECTACULAR weekend. Fri 26.50 cr, Sat 27.15 cr, Sun 30.18 cr. Total: ₹ 83.83 cr nett. India biz. REMARKABLE!," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"Kick" will be Salman's seventh film to enter into the ₹100 crore club after "Dabangg", "Dabangg 2", "Bodyguard", "Ek Tha Tiger", "Jai Ho" and "Ready." So far, none of Salman's films have managed to enter the ₹200 crore club, which has films of other popular Bollywood stars, including Shah Rukh Khan ("Chennai Express"), Hrithik Roshan ("Krrish 3") and Aamir Khan's "Dhoom 3." It will be interesting to see if "Kick" manages to surpass the ₹200 crore mark.
Directed by Sajid Nadiadwala, "Kick" is about Devi Lal Singh (Salman) who does anything to get a kick in his life. He also involves in robbery in the name of Devil. Jacqueline Fernandez plays his love interest, while Randeep Hooda dons the role of a cop who is in pursuit of the Devil. Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Saurab Shukla are also part of the film's cast.
The big budget entertainer is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment banner. The film is distributed by UTV Motion Pictures.
