The second-day box office collection of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Kapoor-starrer "Ki and Ka" witnessed a jump of 15 percent. "Ki and Ka" garnered Rs. 8.41 crore from its second day run at the domestic box office.
The two-day box office collection of "Ki and Ka" stands at Rs. 15.71 crore, and with this, it has overtaken Himesh Reshammiya-starrer "Teraa Surroor" (Rs. 14.15 crore) at the domestic box office. "Ki and Ka" is now looking to end its opening weekend on a good note. If it remains strong on its third day, i.e. Sunday, the film will have the second highest opening weekend of the year.
"#KiAndKa witnesses an upward trend on Sat. Fri 7.30 cr, Sat 8.41 cr. Total: ₹ 15.71 cr. India biz, [sic]" trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The rom-com, directed by R Balki, had a limited release in India, and was targeted at audiences in urban centres. Hence, the growth Saturday was also limited to 15 percent.
Meanwhile, "Ki and Ka" has emerged as the biggest opener for Balki. His last directorial, "Shamitabh," had earned Rs. 3.5 crore, while "Paa," which was released in 2009, earned Rs 2.15 crore over the opening weekend. "Ki and Ka" is also set to beat the lifetime box office collection of Balki's first film "Cheeni Kum," starring Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu. "Cheeni Kum" had minted approximately Rs. 17 crore during its box office run, and "Ki and Ka" is set to beat this record with its three-day box office collection, Koimoi.com reports.
Directed by Balki, "Ki and Ka" was released in 1,600 screens in India. The film features Kareena as Kia, Arjun as Kabir Bansal, and Swaroop Sampat and Rajit Kapur as supporting characters. Amitabh has done a cameo in the film along with wife Jaya Bachchan.
