It looks like Rocking Star Yash's KGF (Kolar Gold Fields) is going to overpower Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero at the domestic box office. Both movies of different genres having different audience were released on the same day (December 21) but KGF has turned to be out much more fruitful than Zero and how.
KGF, which was released across 2460 screens in India, had received a humongous response on the opening day which was combined with the positive words of mouth from the audience. The movie earned a whopping Rs 18.1 crore nett on day 1 across India. It continued its victory march on day 2 witnessing growth in its collections by minting Rs 19.25 crore on the second day of its release. The total nett collection of KGF now stands at Rs 37 crore (approximately).
Zero, on the other hand, which was released across 4380 screens in India, got mixed response from critics and audience alike. Despite having an ensemble cast of Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma and a celebrated director like Aanand L Rai, the movie raked in a descent Rs 20.14 crore on day 1.
The movie witnessed 9.53 percent decline in its collection on day 2 and managed to earn Rs 18.22 crore taking the total box office collection to Rs 38.36 crore.
It is to be noted that KGF starring Rocking Star Yash managed to pocket the same amount as that of Zero at the box office despite having 40 per cent less screen counts and less shows in its kitty. Though KGF hasn't been able to crack the Hindi market, it has dominated the screens in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Moreover, KGF earned Rs 1 crore (approximately) more than Zero on day 2.
If KGF keeps the momentum going at the box office, it may soon leave Zero far behind in terms of its daily box office collections. It remains to be seen if Zero picks up pace and strikes gold at the box office in the days to come.
