Yash and Srinidhi Shetty starrer KGF has successfully completed its second week in theatres across the country. The business of Prashanth Neel-directorial has remained stable in Karnataka and has seen a slight improvement in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
KGF was released in over 350 screens on December 21 to a massive hype in Karnataka. After two weeks, the movie is still being played in 250 screens across in the state. After ending its second weekend on a high note, the business has not declined and has continued to pull the audience to theatres.
Sources from the industry told International Business Times, India that the movie has joined the Rs 100 crore club in Karnataka. "I have been following the business of our movies for years now, but no film could retain its momentum after the first 10 days. Many factors have played its parts in KGF success and Christmas and New Year holiday season has come as a boon to the film. It is a historical moment and has a lesson to filmmakers," a senior distributor said.
Different sources from the industry say that the producer's share in the two weeks is somewhere around Rs 51-53 crore. It means the gross collection of the Yash's movie from five versions (Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam), is easily over Rs 100 crore in Karnataka, thereby becoming the first Sandalwood film to hit a century. It becomes the second movie to achieve this feat in the state of SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2.
The movie has grossed over Rs 65-70 crore across in the country. Notably, KGF has breached into $700 mark in the US.
