The Kerala government has decided to shut down 55 off-campuses of Mahatma Gandhi University that were functioning since 2013 without government recognition.
The University has received the closure order from its Chancellor and Kerala Governor P Sathasivam.
The University will directly conduct classes for the students who are pursuing their studies at the affected campuses.
In all, there are 73 off-campus centres under the University, 66 of them in India and 7 abroad.
Earlier, the Off-campus Centre Management Association had filed a petition in the Kerala High Court challenging the order, saying it was 'discriminatory'.
