A 20-year-old newly wed Kerala woman committed suicide at her home in Goundampalayam in Coimbatore on Tuesday, 13 October after her husband seized her mobile phone for her obsession with WhatsApp and Facebook.
The deceased, identified as Aparna hung herself after Kumar, a lorry driver, took away her mobile phone.
On Monday, she was reportedly warned by her husband for spending most of her time on social media and this provoked her to end her life.
Before committing suicide, she informed about her husband's action to her elder brother using another cellphone and locked herself up inside a room.
After repeated attempts to convince her to open the room by family members, Kumar broke open the door and found his wife hanging from the ceiling.
Aparna was taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.
Meanwhile, Kumar, who also reportedly attempted to commit suicide by jumping off from the terrace, was saved by his relatives.
