Kerala is soon expected to add a new chapter in its history of tourism with the arrival of the two advanced hydrofoil cruise vessels, which would become operational during Onam festival season. It is the country's first high-speed hydrofoil ferry service.
Yes, you heard it right. Now people can travel from Kochi to Kozhikode in high-speed hydrofoil ferry service in just three hours. That is not all, while the initial service of the new cruise vessel will be between the bustling cities like Kochi and Kozhikode, a service to Vizhinjam port in Thiruvananthapuram is also on the cards ensuring a hassle-free journey.
And before you jump up in the air to celebrate, here is something else too. Your new ride through coastal waters is expected to come at Rs. 1,200. The high-speed cruise service, which can sail at a speed of 30 to 40 knots, is expected to be offered in business and economy class. The travel time between Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram would be around two hours and from the capital city to Kozhikode is likely to be around four hours.
A Dubai-based Safe Boat Trips and the Department of Ports have already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a service that connects Marine Drive in Kochi with Beypore port in Kozhikode. The company is said to have secured all permission to ferry the new vessels and it will be restricted to daytime.
The vessel can accommodate upto 150 passengers and will house all modern amenities, including pantry and entertainment facilities.
