Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Kerala for more than a week and the southern state of India now faces its worst flood in more than a century. Most of the districts are under several feet of water and according to latest reports, at least 90 people have died and many are still missing.
Some people are said to be out of contact for several days, causing panic among relatives regarding their safety. Telecom network carriers in a bid to ease the tension have come forward to offer free call and internet service for a limited time in Kerala.
Reliance Jio has announced that their subscribers both the pre-paid and post-paid subscribers are entitled to avail free calling and internet service in Kerala for the next seven days.
On the other hand, Airtel is offering auto-approval of Rs 30 pack for pre-paid consumers that entail free internet 1GB data and calls for seven days. And for post-paid and broadband consumers, the company has extended the bill payment due date, so that the telecom service continues uninterrupted.
Airtel has deployed VSAT (Very Small Antenna Terminal) at five major relief centres in Kerala to provide free Wi-Fi and calling facility to people.
