Incessant rainfall and floods wrecked havoc in Kerala for the past two weeks. The Central and other state governments are doing their best to help the disaster victims. While the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and NDRF have been working round the clock to rescue people, NGOs and common people have also been contributing relief material and funds to the flood-hit state.
Union Minister Alphons Kannanthanam had been active on social media and has been constantly tweeting about the floods and his involvement in providing relief in the affected areas.
However, his latest picture has been at the receiving end of social media backlash. In the picture, Alphons can be seen sleeping at a relief camp and Twitter users feel that he is just "showing off".
The minister tweeted the picture and said that he slept at a relief camp in Kottayam district's Changanacherry. "Most people didn't sleep, thinking of an uncertain tomorrow," his tweet added. He also tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah, Union Minister Piyush Goyal and others in the post.
His tweet did not go down well with his Twitter followers. One of the users said: "Sir, Is this a joke? U don't need to do such show offs. People of Kerala can clearly recognise this kind of political gimmicks. In fact, being a central minister you are able to help kerala in this dire situation. Pls do that. Jai Hind,"
Here's how Twitter reacted to Alphons' tweet:
