The results of Kerala local body elections were announced on Saturday, 7 November. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has staged a comeback in village panchayats, block panchayats, municipalities and corporations with an overall lead in the results revealed as of now.
Many celebrities and daughters of politicos, including television anchor Veena S Nair, actor-producer Kannan Pattambi, director Ali Akbar, producer Mummy Century, singer Daleema and director K Bhaskaran among others contested for the Kerala panchayat and municipal elections.
Veena, who was contesting at Sasthamangalam ward in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has lost. She is the daughter-in-law of KPCC general secretary KP Kunjikannan.
Former Kerala Chief Minister EK Nayanar's daughter Usha Praveen and late Communist Marxist Party leader MV Raghavan's daughter MV Girija, representing the CPI(M), also failed in Kochi and Kannur corporations, respectively.
While Usha was defeated by her UDF rival Soumini Jain in Ravipuram, Girija also lost to her UDF rival in Kannur Corporation.
Minister CN Balakrishnan's daughter CB Geetha has won in Thrissur corporation.
While the first phase of elections was held in Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod on 2 November, the second phase covered Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram on 5 November.
