The much-awaited local body elections in Kerala are set to take place in November. The tough two-phase local bodies' polls has 75,549 candidates of which 38,268 are women and 37,281 are men.
This time, celebrities like television anchor Veena S Nair, actor-producer Kannan Pattambi, director Ali Akbar, producer Mummy Century, singer Daleema, director K Bhaskaran are also contesting the polls, among many others.
Veena, who is also an advocate, will be contesting for Congress' Councillor's post from Sasthamangalam ward in Thiruvananthapuram.
Kannan will be contesting as an independent candidate in the 11th ward in Thrithala panchayat in Pattambi. Mummy represents the LDF in Keezhmaadu division in Ernakulam district panchayat.
Ali Akbar will be contesting as a BJP candidate in Areekode ward in Kozhikode corporation and singer Daleema represents CPI (M) in Aroor panchayat in Alappuzha.
Actor Mukesh's uncle K Bhaskaran will be competing as an independant candidate in Kollam Corporation.
Meanwhile, Usha Praveen, daughter of former chief minister EK Nayanar, and PK Vasudevan Nair's daughter Sarada Mohan will represent the CPI (M)-led LDF in the local body polls for the Kochi corporation, in the Ravipuram and Kalady divisions, respectively.
Meanwhile, the late Communist Marxist Party leader MV Raghavan's daughter MV Girija is a candidate from Kannur Corporation.
Former minister N Ramakrishnan's daughter Amrita Ramakrishnan will also reportedly compete for the Kannur Corporation polls.
The poll is scheduled to be held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Kannur, Wayanad and Kasargod districts on 2 November and in Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram on 5 November.
Counting will take place on 7 November, as announced by state election commissioner K Sasidharan Nair.
