Scores of passengers waiting at the public bus stand in Kalpetta - a small town lying on the Kozhikode-Mysore National Highway in Wayanad district of Kerala, were left shocked after the TV screens across the KSRTC depot started playing porn.
The passengers and bus depot officials were treated to a full 30-minute of X-rated porn on Tuesday morning. A local police officer confirmed to IBTimes India that the incident took place at the KSRTC government bus stand.
An eyewitness to the incident revealed on Reddit that the incident took place at 10.30am during the peak hours. "There were hundreds of people present," dark0range said on Reddit. "Many of the shocked and embarrassed women apparently fled the place."
"Mothers with their children, college girls and some others ran away" as the TV screen showed live porn, dark0range added.
A few embarrassed bystanders tried to even cover up the TV with clothes, but the TV volume was left high as the remote control was locked up away in the operator's room. Finally, after almost 30 minutes, the local officials managed to disconnect the cable wires.
The police later found that the cable operator, who is a local resident, had mixed up his personal USB containing the porn with another drive.
Kalpetta police sub-inspector James George told The Huffington Post India that they have arrested the 38-year-old cable operator identified as Manzoor. He was produced before the court on Wednesday, 17 June.
The police booked Manzoor under section 292 of the Indian Penal Code (obscene and indecent advertisement and display), the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, and various sections of the Information Technology Act. If found guilty, he could face a jail term of at least two years.
