Kerala box office: Mohanlal's Pulimurugan witnesses a drop in collection after fabulous Sunday business at Kochi multiplexes

Mohanlal's Pulmurugan is not just performing well at the Kerala box office, the action thriller has been making good business from the worldwide box office since its release on October 7. The Vysakh directorial, which has become the first Malayalam movie to enter the Rs 100 crore club, is set to become the fastest film to cross Rs 4 crore mark at the multiplexes in Kochi. 

Though initially reports had it that the currency ban in India has affected the business of movies in the country, the makers of Pulimurugan have been posting the photos of the movie's housefull shows in various parts in Kerala. It has already become the biggest grosser in Malayalam.

The action thriller, bankrolled by Tomichan Mulakupaadam, has so far earned a total collection of Rs 3.64 crore within 39 days of its theatrical run from the six multiplexes in Kochi. The 39th day collection of Pulimurugan is said to be Rs 2.85 lakh, while the movie had a fabulous Sunday this weekend by earning approximately Rs 9.25 lakhs on the 38th day. However, compared to the previous weeks, the movie has witnessed a slight drop in the collection, due to the scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes in the country.

Meanwhile, few Twitterati have claimed that the Mohanlal-starrer has earned more than Rs 75 lakh at the Tamil Nadu box office, however trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai told International Business Times India that the movie is highly unlikely to have earned such a good business at the box office in Tamil Nadu as it was only screened in few theatres.

The Mohanlal-starrer has already topped the US, the UAE, the UK and many other overseas markets among the Malayalam movies.
