Since October 7, Mohanlal's Pulimurugan has been doing roaring business throughout Kerala after it opened to a fabulous response from the audience. Apart from emerging as the biggest opening day grosser in Malayalam, with an approximate collection of Rs 4.08 crore, the movie has made several other records as well.
The action thriller, which has been performing well at the six multiplexes in Kochi, has earned more than Rs 3 crore, becoming the first movie to achieve this feat. After enjoying a theatre occupancy of 48 percent on the 29th day, the Vysakh-directed movie collected Rs 5.18 lakh, taking its total to Rs 3.03 crore within four weeks of its release.
The opening day collection of the Mohanlal-starrer from the multiplexes in the city alone was Rs 14.97 lakh from 47 shows, trailing behind Rajinikanth's Kabali, Dulquer Salmaan's Charlie, Salman Khan's Sultan, Nivin Pauly's Action Hero Biju and Dulquer's Kali. It also became the fastest Malayalam movie to enter the Rs 1 crore club at the multiplexes within eight days of its theatrical run. It is also the fastest movie to make Rs 1.5 crore, Rs 2 crore and Rs 2.5 crore in Kochi.
Meanwhile, the big-budget thriller, bankrolled by Tomichan Mulakupaadam, is estimated to have earned approximately Rs 65 crore in Kerala. The movie, which has already become the biggest grosser in Malayalam, is expected to be the first film in Mollywood to enter the prestigious Rs 100 crore club at the worldwide box office. Apart from Kerala, Pulimurugan has also been performing well in other parts of India and overseas markets, including the US, UAE-GCC and Europe.
