Superstar Rajinikanth's gangster thriller "Kabali" has become the biggest grossing Tamil movie upon completing its 11 days of successful run at the multiplexes in Kochi.
The Pa. Ranjith directed film is said to have earned approximately Rs. 1.28 crore, shattering the record of Vikram's blockbuster romantic thriller "I." The Shankar- directed film, starring Amy Jackson, had earned a total amount of Rs. 1.21 crore from the multiplexes in the town and was enjoying the top spot in the list of biggest Tamil grossers from the city before the release of "Kabali." It has now been replaced by "Kabali," which is still continuing its good run at the Kerala box office. The Rajini-starrer, which has been garnering tremendous response from worldwide audience, is set to become one of the biggest grossers of the superstar.
Meanwhile, the latest Malayalam releases "White" and "Kismath," released on July 29, have been opened to an average response from the audience. Despite being a Mammootty starrer, director Uday Ananthan's "White" is said to have failed to impress movie-goers. The film, which marks the Malayalam debut of Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi, has only earned Rs. 13.12 lakh within four days from the multiplexes. It is followed by Shane Nigam and Shruthy Menon's small-budget movie "Kismath," which is believed to have collected Rs. 9.07 lakh within four days.
Among the Eid releases, it is Asif Ali, Biju Menon and Rajisha Vijayan-starrer "Anuraga Karikkin Vellam" which has emerged as the winner by crossing the Rs. 1 crore mark, beating Mammootty's "Kasaba" at the Kochi multiplexes. The romantic family entertainer has collected Rs. 1.27 crore within 26 days of its theatrical run in the multiplexes after being well accepted by family audience.
