Malayalam movie Aanandam, which released on October 21, has been garnering tremendous response from the audience, especially youngsters, despite being a project with newcomers in the cast and crew. The Ganesh Raj directorial, which narrates the story of a few engineering students, stars seven debutants in the lead roles.
The campus entertainer is said to have made a gross collection of approximately Rs 2 crore within three days of its release in 73 screens in Kerala. The movie has also performed decently on the first weekend at the five multiplexes in Kochi by earning a total of Rs 21.03 lakh in three days.
While the opening day collection of Vineeth Sreenivasan's production venture was Rs 6.49 lakh, the movie made a business of Rs 7.02 lakh and Rs 7.5 lakh on the second and third days, respectively with approximately 96 per cent theatre occupancy at the Kochi multiplexes.
Produced under the banner Habit of Life, Aanandam holds well at the Kerala box office with two big budget movies -- Mohanlal's Pulimurugan and Mammootty's Thoppil Joppan.
The Vysakh directorial has crossed the Rs 2 crore mark at the multiplexes within 16 days. The 17th day of the action thriller is said to be Rs 16.04 lakh with theatre occupancy of 96 per cent making a total gross collection of Rs 2.23 crore.
It has to be noted that the 17th day collection of the Mohanlal-starrer is more than the opening day collection of the movie, which made Rs 14.97 lakh from 47 shows on the first day from the multiplexes.
Meanwhile, the megastar's comedy family entertainer Thoppil Joppan made a collection of Rs 1.77 lakh on the 17th day from nine shows taking a total of Rs 69 lakh from the multiplexes in the city. The Johny Antony directorial, has however, failed to break the collection records of Pulimurugan, which is set to become the biggest grosser of the year.
