Two engineering students from Karunya University in Coimbatore drowned in Siruvani check dam on Saturday, according to reports.
The 21-year-old victims, Jean Mathew Varghese (Kallooppara) and Jacob George Chakiath (Kothamangalam), were among the five Malayali students who came to take bath in the five-metre-deep reservoir near their college on 18 July. Nandhangarai Check Dam, which is built across Siruvani river, is located at Kerala-Tamil Nadu border near Kalkothipathi.
The students' bodies have been taken to the district hospital in Coimbatore for post-mortem, according to Karunya Nagar Police.
Jean was a mechanical engineering student while Jacob was a final year student of electircal engineering.
In July 2013, another 21-year-old youth, Guru Shankar, from Vadavalli (Coimbatore) had drowned in the dam, when he along with eight others had gone there to swim.
