Activist-turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal has challenged Union Minister Salman Khurshid to take part in a public discussion over the scam allegations against him.
"We challenge Mr Salman Khurshid to come to jantar mantar and have a public discussion here on entire matter," the activist said on Sunday. Members of the Kejriwal led-India Against Corruption (IAC) organisation also claimed that they would ask five questions to Khurshid from the stage.
Khurshid and his wife Louise are facing serious allegations of misusing funds meant for the handicapped. A sting operation by news channel Aaj Tak revealed that the high-profile political couple siphoned off lakhs of rupees intended for the disabled in Uttar Pradesh through an NGO headed by them.
The revelations just armed Kejriwal with more ammunition in attacking the Congress party.
Kejriwal has become relentless in battling the "corrupt empire" of the Congress-led UPA government since the controversial dealings between Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra and realty major DLF were brought to light.
The IAC activist has been holding press meets and organizing protest on various issues of corruption, incidentally involving only Congress leaders or those who have close proximity with the party.
Kejriwal and his aid Manish Shishodia were arrested by police on Friday, while staging a protest near the prime minister's residence demanding the resignation of Salman Khurshid on moral grounds.
He was locked in a makeshift jail at Bawana stadium and was let go on Saturday morning. Soon after his release, he led his supporters to the Parliament Street police station near Jantar Mantar and staged a protest demanding Khurshid to quit office over the allegations of financial irregularities in the NGO.
The police refrained from taking any action on the mob. The crowd settled down on the streets all night as part of the protest.
Kejriwal also claimed to turn Parliament Street police station as the next Tahrir Square, which was the epicentre of the historic Egypt revolution.
