Jiiva and Kajal Aggarwal-starrer Kavalai Vendam has successfully completed its first week at the Tamil Nadu box office. After getting a good opening, the business of the Tamil flick has slowed down at collection centres.
In the first week, Kavalai Vendam has approximately grossed Rs 8.65 crore. The movie is being played in 140 screens in its second week. The Tamil flick had enjoyed good occupancy rates in Chennai and Chengalpet in the first weekend. But the collection apparently dropped in the later days.
The demonetisation of Rs 500 and 1000 notes has taken severe toll on the business of movies. While a city like Chennai is pulling the viewers to the theatres in decent numbers, rural places have been worst affected. "TN Box-Office : The #DeMonetisation effect continues in small towns & rural areas, acute shortage of cash & movies r not a priority [sic]," leading trade tracker Sreedhar Pillai tweeted.
Meanwhile, the release of Vijay Antony's Saithan is expected to impact the collection of Kavalai Vendam. The new movie has registered high occupancy rate on the release day in Chennai and has earned Rs 3.30 crore on the first day in Tamil Nadu. It has opened to positive reviews and the trade experts predict that it will affect the Jiiva-starrer to some extent.
Kavalai Vendam is a romantic-comedy movie, which is written and directed by Deekay. Kajal Aggarwal and Bobby Simha are in the important roles in the flick, which is bankrolled by Elred Kumar.
