Ekta Kapoor's weekend show "Kavach," which replaced the successful supernatural series "Naagin," telecast its first episode on Saturday, June 11 from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Colors channel. The show was making a huge buzz since it stars popular actors Mona Singh, Vivek Dahiya and Maheck Chahal in key roles. The first episode managed to attract 17.5 million television viewers, according to data International Business Times, India, received from ZAPR.
Although "Kavach" initially opened with comparatively low unique views, the viewership gradually increased and reached its peak (10.8 million viewers) between 8:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m.
The first episode of "Kavach" faced tough competition from other shows, which were also aired on the channel during weekends. "Kavach" secured the third position on June 11 after "Comedy Nights Bachao" (over 30 million viewers) and "India's Got Talent 7" (over 25 millions viewers).
Coming to the geographic distribution of the viewers of "Kavach," Uttar Pradesh stands tall with 15 percent of total viewership, followed by Maharashtra with 11.7 percent. Other states where "Kavach" was viewed the most are Gujarat, Delhi and Rajasthan, with 8.7, 6.5 and 6.3 percent viewership, respectively.
With "Kavach" pulling a viewership of 17.5 million for its first episode, it appears that the show will eventually turn out to be as successful as "Naagin," which was widely watched by the masses throughout the season.
"Kavach" is a finite series and the plot of the show will revolve around Mona's character Paridhi, who will go to any extent to protect her husband Rajbir (played by Vivek) from the spirit of his ex-lover, Manjulika (played by Maheck).
