Katrina Kaif's fans may be in for a double treat if the actress steps into Hema Malini shoes. According to reports, the Bollywood bombshell has been approached to play the double role in the remake of 1972 hit film "Seeta Aur Geeta".
The 1972 film was directed by Ramesh Sippy and featured Hema Malini, Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar in the lead roles.
Katrina who is fond of the original film once thought of financing the remake. Mid-Day citing sources reported that the makers of the film are so pleased with Katrina's interest that they want the actress to select her own team to work with.
"The rights are not with Sippy as there is a dispute between the Sippy brothers regarding it. Ramesh could be directing it but only after he wins the rights," an industry insider told the daily.
However, Ramesh Sippy's son Rohan has denied the news saying, "Dad is not directing the movie."
The dual-role trend is back in Bollywood. Last year, two films with double roles were released including Akshay Kumar's "Rowdy Rathore" and Abhishek Bachchan's "Bol Bachchan". Both the films were box office hits.
The dual-role formula has always worked for Bollywood. "Seeta and Geeta" was a commercial success. Hema Malini had won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her role in the film.
