The Vijay-Samantha starrer "Kaththi" has managed to break almost all Tamil movie box office records, especially in the overseas.
The film, directed by AR Murugadoss has also become the highest five day grosser of the year in Tamil Nadu Diwali Box office by collecting ₹36 crore.
The latest reports suggest that "Kaththi" has broken the record collection of Rajinikanth's 2007 film "Sivaji". The Rajini-Shriya starrer had managed to grab the second top position in the UK box office in terms of the opening weekend collection, and has now moved to the third position.
"Kaththi" has grossed £40,000 during its opening days in the UK and by the end of the week, the movie collected a total of £222, 526.
"At the end of opening weekend, the movie has collected £222, 526. 'Kaththi' has surpassed the opening weekend collection of Rajinikanth's 'Sivaji', Ajith's 'Arrambam' and Vijay's 'Jilla' and 'Thuppaki'. This is the second highest opening weekend collection for a Tamil movie in UK", reported popular movie based website Movie Crow.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth's "Endhiran" continues to enjoy the top position in the UK box office collection. The film had earned £277,918 in its opening weekend. Meanwhile, the super star's "Sivaji" had collected £168, 603 in the opening weekend. This is followed by "Jilla" with £152, 552, "Arrambam" with £135, 223 and "Thuppakki" with £134,280.
The same trend is seen in Malaysia as "Kaththi" has grossed $580,000 from 32 screens in its opening weekend. In Malaysia too, "Endhiran" enjoys the top position. Meanwhile, in Australia, "Kaththi" has grossed $160,890, thereby surpassing the collection of "Kochadiyaan" and "Anjaan".
Interestingly, "Kaththi" became the first Vijay starrer to take over the US box office with a collection of $500,000. The box office collection of "Kaththi" has set another trend in the Tamil film industry as it is neither a Rajinikanth nor a Kamal Haasan movie to become the highest grossing Tamil movie in the international box office.
