The security forces on Wednesday opened fire on protesters in Nadihal village of Rafiabad in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.
The firing led to the death of one youth and several others were injured. The deceased is a resident of Nadihal and has been identified as Danish Manzoor, 28.
A doctor at the District Hospital in Baramulla said that Danish was brought to the hospital and later succumbed to his injuries. The doctor said that five more injured people were also brought to the hospital.
"Three of them have been referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment," the doctor added. With the killing of the youth, the death toll in region has reached 71 after the protests that began after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani.
According to reports, witnesses stated that protesters resorted to stone-pelting after the security forces denied passage to some trucks laden with fruits in the area. The witnesses also added that the forces ransacked the houses in the area and beat up the inmates, according to Greater Kashmir.
Angry youth were staging protests in Nadihal village against the "excesses" of the security forces. In response to the stone pelting, the security forces resorted to firing, which resulted in the death of one person and serious injuries to five others. The police could not be reached for a comment on the incident.
