The Karnataka government denied permission to 'La Tomatina Bangalore,' organized by a private firm. The event was scheduled to be held in the city on September 18.
'La Tomatina' is a famous festival held in the Valencia town of Spain on the last Wednesday of very August. Participants in the festival throw tomatoes at one another.
Stating that 'it's not proper to treat the product of farmer's hard work in such a wasteful manner,' Karnataka Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda instructed the police authorities in Bangalore and Mysore not to give permission for the festival.
Earlier, a delegation of tomato growers, environmentalists and NGO representatives had met the Chief Minister and urged him to deny permission to the festival.
