A mechanical engineering student of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, Mangaluru, committed suicide on Saturday, November 17 after a professor refused to let him write exams.
The deceased student has been identified as Anand Pathak (20), a third-year mechanical engineering student of NIT-K hailing from Maharashtra. Anand committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of the mechanical engineering department building.
Anand was allegedly threatened by one of the professors from the mechanical engineering department due to attendance shortage and he was continuously censured by the professor.
The professor had allegedly told Anand that he will fail his exams and will not become an engineer.
The students held huge protests in the campus against the professor, demanding justice for the deceased.
