The son of a Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) corporator was arrested by Bengaluru City Police (BCP) on Tuesday in connection with the murder case of a rowdy sheeter from Adugodi.
Suraj (26), son of Congress corporator D Chandrappa from Hombe Gowda Nagar, was arrested for his involvement in the murder of Vijay Kumar, 38, alias Viji or Lakkasandra Viji.
Vijay used to extort money and had a cable network business in Wilson Garden. It is alleged that he was creating trouble in Suraj's business and it led to the murder.
According to police, Vijay was found dead at his office in Wilson Garden on December 4. He was hacked to death by several people after throwing chilli powder on his face and blinding him.
As of now, 13 people involved in the murder case, including Suraj, have been arrested by the police and two more are yet to be arrested.
Suraj had given a 'supari' or contract to a hitman named Shafi to carry out Vijay's murder. The gang had been watching Vijay for some time, understanding his routines as to plan the murder.
The main accused for the murder are identified as Shafi, Suraj, Mathin, Ramesh, Vivek, Karthik, Salman, Shivakumar, Mahesh, Yaarab and Thoufeek.
"Suraj had a financing firm in Wilson Garden by the name Gayathri finances and Vijay was creating problems for Sooraj. During the elections, a fight broke out between them which didn't end well," Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Madivala Some Gowda told International Business Times, India.
A murder case was filed under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
