Four people were killed and three injured after a boiler blast at a factory in Nirani Sugar Factory Limited in Kulalli village in Karnataka's Bagalkot district on Sunday.
Reports state that there were ten people working inside the distillery when the accident occurred. The blast from the boiler was so intense that the three-story building had collapsed, killing four and severely injuring five others.
Three workers died instantaneously while one succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
Indian Express reported that the victims are yet to be identified due to the extent of damage on the bodies.
The factory is owned by BJP MLA Murugesh Nirani and his brothers Sangamesh and Hanumantha.
"There are around 1,000 workers in the factory. The blast occurred in a treatment plant about half a kilometer away from the factory where seven people were working today. Three died on the spot, one in the hospital and three are being treated at the hospital," Murugesh Nirani told News18.
