Former Bollywood actress and a fifth-generation member of one of the film industry's most powerful families, Karisma Kapoor, 37, was, perhaps, the first female member of the clan to truly make it to superstar status.
Over the course of nearly two-decade long career, she has transformed herself from an awkward teenager with thick eyebrows and dubious acting skills to a cinematic star with several hits to her credit. She made her debut in 1991, with "Prem Qaidi".
She married Sanjay Kapur, an industrialist, in 2003 and, in consonance with the Kapoor family tradition, stayed away from Bollywood. However, she returned, with one-off films like "Baaz: A Bird in Danger" (2003) and a cameo in "Om Shanti Om" (2007).
She has four Filmfare awards to her credit, as well as a national award and is all set to hit the screens again, with Vikram Bhatt's thriller, "Dangerous Ishq".
A mother of two, some of Karisma's more notable films are "Raja Hindustani" (1996), "Dil To Pagal Hai" (1997), "Biwi No 1" (1999), "Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge" (2000), "Fiza" (2000), "Zubeidaa" (2001), "Shakti: The Power" (2002) and "Rishtay" (2002).
