Earlier, it had been reported that Bollywood actors Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ranveer Singh would feature in the remake of 1983 classic "Sadma." However, the recent buzz is that the "Ki and Ka" actress has turned down the offer, thus the film is reportedly shelved.
"The makers planned the sequel keeping Kareena in mind. It's her character that drives the film so the female protagonist is very important in the film. Sridevi had nailed her part in the original and the team felt Bebo's the only actress of the current generation who can bring in the depth and drama to the table. So after she informed them that she wasn't doing the film, the makers decided to put the film on hold for the time being," Bollywood Life quoted a source as saying.
Kareena confirmed that she had been approached for the movie, but she had not taken up the project. "I was approached for the film but I am not doing that film," Bebo told the leading daily. "I don't know if they are making the film anymore now," she added.
Fans eagerly wanted to see Kareena in Sridevi's character, but it seems the role didn't excite the diva. Also, the audience will be disappointed as they wanted to see Ranveer and Kareena together on the big screen. The makers wished to star Kareena in the specially-abled Nehalata's character (originally played by Sridevi) and Ranveer would have reprised Kamal Haasan's Somu.
Apart from Kareena, the makers also approached Vidya Balan for the challenging role, but she had also refused to take the offer, fearing she might not do justice to Sridevi's character, Zee News reported.
Meanwhile, Kareena will next be seen in Abhishek Chaubey's "Udta Punjab," which also stars Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. She was recently seen in R Balki's "Ki and Ka."
