Bangalore based smartphone maker, Karbonn has launched a new budget handset dubbed as Titanium S99 in India.
The new entry level Karbonn phone sports a 4.0-inch IPS screen and comes with latest Android v4.4 KitKat OS, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB (expandable up to 32GB) and 1,400 mAh battery.
Priced just ₹5,990, it boasts of 5.0-megapixel main camera with LED flash, a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) snapper on the front for video chatting and also features standard connectivity features like 3G network support, dual-SIM slots, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS.
"The advantages of using Android 4.4 KitKat are numerous. It takes system performance to a whole new level by offering better memory management. It provides all-in-one solution to user's communication needs by providing upgraded Hangouts App supported with improved SMS & MMS integration. Hot 'Ok Google' feature predicts information based on user's location, favourite sites and TV programs," Times of India quoted, Shashin Devsare, executive director, Karbonn as saying.
"In addition, Android KitKat includes a variety of new features like Smarter Caller ID, faster multitasking, low-power location monitoring, redesigned download app and easy home screen switching to name a few. The combination of these extraordinary features make KitKat a solid addition to the Android family," he added.
The new phone is the latest to join the burgeoning budget KitKat smartphone club which was kick started by Motorola Moto E in mid-May. Since its launch, all leading domestic vendors –Micromax (three devices- Canvas Unite 2, Entice A105, Engage A091), Lava (Iris X1), Xolo (Q600s), Celkon (Campus A35K) and other have released similar devices.
Even though Titanium S99 competes neck-and-neck with the popular Moto E in terms of hardware specification and price, it still falls short in one key important aspect, RAM capacity which is related to smooth functioning of the smartphone; it comes with 512MB physical memory, whereas the Motorola phone comes with 1GB RAM.
